BORA KAR TEMPLE—Most people have never heard of Bora Kar, and Minister Bora Sam likes it that way.
“We are a very small group,” Bora Sam told The Iowa Iowan Saturday. The Bora Kar Temple holds prayer services every Saturday morning.
Bora Sam described the ritual: “To cleanse our material desires, we rise early, adorn our traditional black and gold tunics, and perform our prayer shrieks to the Golden Sun. We march about the thoroughfares while shrieking, to bring us closer to the Golden Sun.”
Unfortunately for those of the Bora Kar religion, another group of people have recently begun a similar ritual. “Beginning the third day of the ninth month, thousands of people are performing our ritual in Iowa City, only in prayer for the sinful blood-victory of the Hawkeyes over many creatures, such as the Panther.”
“We do not want imitators or followers,” said Bora Sam. “But this is the nature of Bora Kar—love it or leave it.”
