LOCAL RELIGIOUS GROUP: PLEASE DON’T CONFUSE OUR SATURDAY-MORNING PRAYER SHRIEKS FOR HAWKEYE SPIRIT

BORA KAR TEMPLE—Most people have never heard of Bora Kar, and Minister Bora Sam likes it that way.

“We are a very small group,” Bora Sam told The Iowa Iowan Saturday. The Bora Kar Temple holds prayer services every Saturday morning.

Bora Sam described the ritual: “To cleanse our material desires, we rise early, adorn our traditional black and gold tunics, and perform our prayer shrieks to the Golden Sun. We march about the thoroughfares while shrieking, to bring us closer to the Golden Sun.”

Unfortunately for those of the Bora Kar religion, another group of people have recently begun a similar ritual. “Beginning the third day of the ninth month, thousands of people are performing our ritual in Iowa City, only in prayer for the sinful blood-victory of the Hawkeyes over many creatures, such as the Panther.”

“We do not want imitators or followers,” said Bora Sam. “But this is the nature of Bora Kar—love it or leave it.”

EVERSON SENTENCE OVERTURNED BY WEB COMMENTS

IOWA CITY—Just hours after former Hawkeye football player Cedric Everson was charged with simple assault, his sentence has been overturned, in what has become one of the most sensational news stories in Hawkeye history.

Judge Paul Miller declared Everson guilty of simple assault Thursday, a charge with a penalty of up to 30 days’ imprisonment.

Upon arriving home Thursday afternoon, however, Judge Miller read the Internet comments on the Daily Iowan’s coverage of Everson’s sentencing. “I suppose I just never saw it that way while we were in the courtroom,” Miller told The Iowa Iowan via AIM chat Thursday evening.

“omfg, miller is such an idiot. everson clearly raped that girl if u think about it,” reads one of the countless enlightening Internet comments on the Daily Iowan’s website.

“Reading that comment was just, like, whoa,” said Miller, presumably emotional. “I want to thank the heroes on the Internet for helping us avoid what could have been the most ill-informed sentence in my career.”

Everson was summoned back to court Friday morning and sentenced to 75 years in prison. “Glad we cleared that one up,” said Miller. “lol.”

KID CUDI DEMANDS WARDROBE BACK FROM FORMER HAWKEYE FOOTBALLER

CLEVELAND, OH—A publicist for rap artist Kid Cudi issued a statement today alleging former University of Iowa football player Cedric Everson stole several articles of Cudi’s clothing.

Everson was on the Hawkeye football squad until 2007 when he was suspended from the team following allegations of sexual assault. Everson returned to Iowa City this week to stand trial for those charges.

Everson appeared in the courtroom wearing a dark blue sweater and thick-rimmed glasses, both of which, according to Cudi’s publicist, recently went missing from the musician’s Ohio home. Neither Everson nor his legal counsel could be reached for comment.

STANZI QUELLS SPECULATION OVER 2012 PRESIDENTIAL RUN

IOWA CITY–It looks as though outgoing Hawkeye quarterback Ricky Stanzi will not seek the presidency in 2012. The Republican Party of Iowa released a statement earlier today saying Stanzi has declined an invitation to the party’s debate later this year.

Rumors over Stanzi’s potential candidacy have swirled since the fifth-year senior delivered a riveting political address following last year’s Orange Bowl victory. The speech was so popular, in fact, that media experts estimate 1.3 million viewers rewound their TiVo so they could record it on their point-and-shoot camcorders.

With a presidential run apparently out of the question, Stanzi’s immediate plans remain unclear. The 23-year-old told The Des Moines Register last month that he’ll spend the rest of the academic year finishing up his degree and trying to figure out a way to get his moped back home to Ohio.
